Data
Brownfield Seed and Delinting Company began operations in May of 1959. It was formed by a
small group of farmers who saw the demand for a facility which delinted conventional cotton
seed. At this time period, cotton seed delinting was not heard of. Farmers were planting fuzzy
seed into the ground and not seeing profitable results. With the determination of our founder, Mr.
Tommy Hicks, his ideas revolutionized the first successful cotton delinting plant in the state of
Texas. This facility started in a two-bedroom house, which was converted into an office, with two
small barns on the property. In 2007, Mr. Hicks sold the company to now-owners Klint Forbes
and Wade Cowan. Klint, Wade, and Tommy all share the same values of running an industry.
The values are to be fair and honest with all customers, expand where there is opportunity, and
achieve perfection in seed processing. Since then, the facility has grown to 4 locations, 16 large
warehouses, 20+ employees and a groundbreaking cotton seed breeding program. This
breeding program expands to 3 locations with over 900 cotton trials per year. Brownfield Seed is
one of the first of two plants in the US to implement computerization into the delinting process.
We began applying these technologies in the early nineties. Due to our advanced
improvements, we have become one of the most elite and unique delinting facilities in the
nation. Our commitment to the farmers is to give options by offering non-GMO and organic
cotton seed. Every year we are working to create new varieties that carry the standard of our
values to share with the community.
